Nobel Prize in Chemistry goes to three scientists in the field of DNA
In Stockholm announced the winners of the Nobel Prize for chemistry, two Thomas Lindahl, your suppliers and Paul and Aziz Sankar, for their discoveries in the DNA field.
The discoveries shed light on the mechanism used by cells to repair damaged DNA, an essential process in living cells.
The winners will share the prize money amounting to 970 thousand US dollars.
Said Lindahl, who works in the British Francis Crick Institute, he told reporters "It was a surprise. I knew I was nominated for awards in the past years, but hundreds of others ran. I feel that I am lucky to have this optional today to win the Nobel Prize."
It is known that DNA in cells damaged exhibition, due to several phenomena of which is X-rays, as well as cell division, while damage may occur, which process millions of times occur in our bodies every day.
The result of DNA damage in cells to diseases including cancer, but the molecular systems are reforming damage on an ongoing basis, and the protection of genetic information.
The Nobel Prize for Physics went to Takaki Kajita and Arthur MacDonald for discoveries concerning Balnewtrino.
